FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME
Reviewing the Existing Scholarship, Award and Waiver Policy
With the changing situation in the academic arena it has become necessary to review the existing Scholarship/Award/Waiver Policy that was framed on May 22, 2022. The main purpose of reviewing the existing Scholarship/Award/Waiver Policy is to formulate a Scholarship, Award, and Waiver Policy that is student-friendly and that will open the doors of opportunities for the meritorious and needy students from the diversified community to study at Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology and thereby enter in the realm of higher education to earn higher academic degrees successfully without facing situations demanding encountering of high financial hurdles.
The existing policy was formulated by a committee named Scholarship/Waiver Policy Formulation Committee (SWPFC). The policy presented in this document has been framed by the people mentioned at the end of the document.
In this revised policy, slabs for categorizing scholars on the basis of SSC & HSC results as well as the results of students coming from the Madrasah Board have been revised, and the term and conditions of some old provisions have been revised.
Summary of Categories of Scholarships, Awards and Waivers
The categories of scholarships, awards and waivers are as follows:
A. Scholarships/Awards:
i. General Scholarships: Based on SSC and HSC, O-level, A-level, Diploma and Extended Diploma and Dakhil and Alim Exam results
ii. Special Scholarships/Awards: Based on need and/or merit

The number of scholarships/awards and amounts of scholarships/awards in each scholarship/award category, the amount of waivers for each category and the terms and conditions for different kinds of financial benefits (scholarships/awards and waivers) are described in the following pages.
The general conditions applicable for all categories of scholarships, awards and waivers are stated in Section

03.A. General Scholarships:
01. Scholarships Based on SSC and HSC Results.
Amount: The scholarship is provided on the tuition fee and its amount is certain % of the tuition fee decided on the basis of the average GPA of the SSC & HSC Exams, with fourth Subjects.
The committee for revision proposes the % shown in the table below.
It is to be noted that:
(a) If the division system is applicable, conversion to GPA has to be done.
(b) If the system is O-level and A-level based, conversion to GPA has to be done.
(c) If students are diploma holders, conversion to GPA has to be done.
(d) If students are from Extended Diploma background, conversion to GPA has to be done.
The Conversion Table is also given below.

A.01 Conditions:
i. The scholarships are for all newly admitted registered students and are applicable at the time of admission.
ii. If a scholarship holder of any semester (other than the first semester) fails to maintain an SGPA of 3.25, his/her scholarship will be discontinued from the following semester. If the student again acquires an SGPA of 3.25 or more in any semester afterwards, he/she will again get his/her scholarship from the corresponding next semester at the rate he/she enjoyed before.
03.B. Special Scholarships:
01. Founder Chairman’s Scholarship
Amount: Number of Scholarship and % will be decided by BOT
No. of scholarships: The numbers of scholarships are as follows:
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of D & T;
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of E & T
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of F & PA.
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of Business.
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of H & SS.
B.01 Conditions:
i. The scholarship is applicable for needy and meritorious students. [The applicant will have to provide sufficient evidence of being needy.]
ii. The scholarship is for one time and for one year only.
iii. The average of the GPAs of the SSC and HSC Exams is to be 4.00.
iv. A student will be eligible to avail this scholarship ONLY after the 3rd trimester or 2nd semester. [Before this period, the student may avail other scholarships, if applicable.] Whenever, after the 3rd trimester or the 2nd semester, a student applies for this scholarship, his/her SGPA in each of the previous trimesters/semesters has to be 3.25 or more. For specially needy students, this condition may be relaxed by the Founder Chairman’s successor(s).
v. If at the time of offering scholarship in any semester a tie of SGPA is encountered while applying B.01.iv, then the student, having ‘the highest total numerical number’ earned in the courses offered by the concerned department in that semester, will be selected.
vi. The condition A.01.ii applies here.
03.C. Awards:
01. Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship
Amount: 100% of tuition fees.
No. of Scholarships: Taking into the number of students in different Faculties into consideration,
the following numbers for every trimester/semester:
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of D & T;
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of E & T
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of F & PA.
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of Business.
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of H & SS.
C.01 Conditions:
i. These awards are applicable for students from their 10th semester (for the trimester system) or from the 07th (for the semester system).
ii. After having admitted, the SGPAs of the deserving award receiver of continuous 9 trimesters (trimester system) or continuous 6 semesters (semester system) must be 4.00.
iii. If at the time of offering awards in any semester a tie of SGPA is encountered while applying C.01.ii, then the student, having ‘the highest total numerical number’ earned in the courses offered by the concerned department in that semester, will be selected.
iv. If an award receiver fails to maintain an SGPA of 3.75 in any of the next semesters, his/her scholarship from the following semester will be discontinued and will never be revived.
However, the student will be entitled to avail a scholarship of any other category, if applicable.
02. Dean’s Scholarship
Amount: 70% of tuition fees.
No. of Scholarships: Taking into the number of students in different Faculties into consideration,
the following numbers for every trimester/semester:
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of D & T;
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of E & T
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of F & PA.
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of Business.
– 1 (one) for the Faculty of H & SS.
C.02 Conditions:
i. These awards are applicable for students from their 10th semester (for the trimester system) or from the 07th (for the semester system).
ii. After having admitted, the SGPAs of the deserving award receiver of continuous 9 trimesters (trimester system) or 6 semesters (semester system) must be 3.90 or more.
iii. If at the time of offering scholarship in any semester a tie of SGPA is encountered while applying C.02.ii, then the student, having ‘the highest total numerical number’ earned in the course offered by the concerned department in that semester, will be selected.
iv. If a scholarship holder fails to maintain a SGPA of 3.75 in any of the next semesters, his/her scholarship from the following semester will be discontinued and will never be revived.
However, the student will be entitled to avail a scholarship belonging to any other category, if applicable.
03. Scholarships and Awards from External Sources
Municipal Authorities, Trusts and such other external entities from different areas may be willing to offer financial assistances to ‘the meritorious and needy students’ from those localities. The university will keep provision for the qualified students to avail such financial assistances.
Waivers
04.A. General Admission Fee Waiver
Amount: 50 % of the Admission Fee [for Bachelor’s & Master’s programs].
A.1 Conditions:
i. All newly admitted registered students are entitled to get the waiver.
ii. Applicable at the time of admission.
04.B. Tuition Fee Waivers
01. Tuition Fee Waiver for Siblings:
Amount: 30 % of the tuition fee.
B.01 Conditions:
i. If siblings study at the same time, then the one who takes admission last will get this waiver. If any sibling discontinues, the remaining one will get the benefit till the end of his/her program, other conditions remaining the same.
ii. The waiver will be effective from the semester the sibling together will apply.
iii. If the sibling receiving the waiver benefit fails to maintain a minimum SGPA of 3.25 in any semester, his/her waiver for sibling will be discontinued from the following semester. If the concerned sibling again acquires an SGPA of 3.25 or more in any semester afterwards, he/shewill again get the waiver entitled for siblings from the corresponding next semester.
02. Tuition Fee Waiver for Spouses:
Amount: 30 % of the tuition fee.
B.02 Conditions:
i. If spouses study at the same time, then the one who takes admission last will get this waiver. If any spouse discontinues, the remaining one will get the benefit till the end of his/her program, other conditions remaining the same.
ii. The waiver will be effective from the semester the spouses together will apply.
iii. If the spouse enjoying the waiver benefit for spouses fails to maintain a minimum SGPA of 3.25 in any semester, his/her waiver for spouse will be discontinued from the following semester. If the concerned spouse again acquires an SGPA of 3.25 or more in any semester afterwards, he/she will again get the waiver entitled for spouses from the corresponding next semester.
03. Tuition Fee Waiver for Wards of Freedom Fighters:
Amount: 100 % of the tuition fee as decided by the Government of Bangladesh.
B.03 Conditions:
i. The student claiming to be a ward of a Freedom Fighter has to provide the required documents in support of his/her claim of being a ward of a Freedom Fighter.
ii. Wards of freedom fighters quota will get 3% of total students.
iii. The waiver will be effective from the semester the concerned student will apply.
iv. If a student fails to maintain a SGPA of 3.25 in any semester, his/her waiver will be discontinued from the following semester. If the student again acquires an SGPA of 3.25 or more in any semester afterwards, he/she will again get the waiver from the corresponding next semester.
v. A student will get THIS waiver benefit during only one program (i.e., either during the Bachelor’s Program or Master’s Program).
vi. Any rules set by the Govt. of Bangladesh will dominate the conditions mentioned above.
04. Tuition Fee Waiver for Ethnic Community Students:
Amount: 30% of the tuition fee.
B.04 Conditions:
i. The student claiming to be from a tribe has to provide the required documents in support of his/her claim to be an Ethnic Community student.
ii. The waiver will be effective from the semester the student will apply.
iii. If a student fails to maintain a minimum SGPA of 3.25 in any semester, his/her waiver will be discontinued from the following semester. If the student again acquires an SGPA of 3.25 or more in any semester afterwards, he/she will again get the waiver from the corresponding next semester.
05. Tuition Fee Waiver for Remote Area Students and Underprivileged Students:
Amount: 30 % of the tuition fee.
B.05 Conditions:
i. The student claiming to be from a remote area (or being underprivileged) has to provide the required documents in support of his/her claim of being from a remote area or being a underprivileged.
ii. The waiver will be effective from the semester the student will apply.
iii. The average GPA of the SSC and HSC results (or after conversion from any other system) has to be minimum 3.50.
iv. If a student fails to maintain a minimum SGPA of 3.25 in any semester, his/her waiver will be discontinued from the following semester. If the student again acquires an SGPA of 3.25 or more in any semester afterwards, he/she will again get the waiver from the corresponding next semester.
06. Tuition Fee Waiver for Specially Abled Students:
Amount: 50 % of the tuition fee.
B.06 Conditions:
i. The student claiming to be specially abled has to provide the required documents in support of his/her claim.
ii. The waiver will be effective from the semester the student will apply.
iii. If a student fails to maintain a minimum SGPA of 2.50 in any semester, his/her waiver will be discontinued from the following semester. If the student again acquires an SGPA of 2.50 or more in any semester afterwards, he/she will again get the waiver from the corresponding next semester.
iv. Any rule set by the Govt. of Bangladesh will dominate the conditions mentioned above.
07. Tuition Fee Waiver for Celebrities:
Singers, dancers, actors and actresses are included in this category. The level of the celebrities will be decided by the University Authority.

B.07 Conditions:
i. The conditions are as stated in the Office Order dated 15-10-2023 ref.no: SMUCT/ESTT/INL/ORD/23/07/185
ii. Attendance of a deserving scholarship holder needs to be 50% or more.
iii. SGPA of every semester needs to be 2.50 or more.
08. Tuition Fee Waiver for Employees of the University:
Amount: 40 % of the tuition fee.
B.08 Conditions:
i. The length of service of the concerned employee must be at least 2 (two years).
ii. If a student enjoying this benefit fails to maintain an SGPA of 3.25 in any semester, his/her waiver will be discontinued from the following semester. If the student again acquires an SGPA of 3.25 or more in any semester afterwards, he/she will again get his/her scholarship from the corresponding next semester at the rate he/she was enjoying before.
09. Tuition Fee Waiver for the Wards of Employees of the University:
Amount: 30 % of the tuition fee and class forth wards of employee 40%
B.09 Conditions:
i. Fee waiver will be effective from the semester of admission.
ii. If a student enjoying this benefit fails to maintain an SGPA of 3.25 in any semester, his/her waiver will be discontinued from the following semester. If the student again acquires an SGPA of 3.25 or more in any semester afterwards, he/she will again get his/her scholarship from the corresponding next semester at the rate he/she was enjoying before.
10. Situation-Specific Generalized Tuition Fee Waiver
At times, students may, in general, face adverse financial situations because of some special calamities. The policy of the university is that in these situations, it (the university) will provide special financial assistance to alleviate the distress of the students.
[Example: the pandemic situation that persisted for a long time.
Amount: A certain % of the tuition fee to be decided by the university authority. [The university provided 10% of the tuition fee to all students during the Covid- 19.]
B.10 Condition and Process:
i. The waiver will be applicable only as long as the specific situation persists.
ii. Any other conditions set by the University Authority depending on the prevailing situation.
11. Tuition Fee Waiver for Students of Master’s Programs:
A tuition fee waiver of 20% will be provided to the students taking admission in Masters Programs of Law, English, Sociology & Anthropology, Government & Politics, Islamic Studies, Bangla, Fine Arts, Music & Dance, and 30% to the students taking admission in MA in Fashion Design, MBA in PFM, MA in Interior Architecture & MBA Regular Programs.
The above mention waivers will be applicable only for the students of SMUCT. Students from other universities or educational institutions will be entitled to receive 10% waiver on tuition fees in all the Programs
12. Waiver for Needy and Meritorious Students:
Conditions:
i. The scholarship is applicable for needy and meritorious students. [The applicant will have to provide sufficient evidence of being needy.]
ii. If a scholarship holder fails to maintain an SGPA of 3.25 in any semester, his/her scholarship will be discontinued from the following semester. If the student again acquires an SGPA of 3.25 or more in any semester afterwards, he/she will again get his/her scholarship from the corresponding next semester at the rate he/she was enjoying before
The Chairman of BoT of the university may, depending on the need of students and subject to fulfillment of the previous and/or existing academic performance requirements, grant special waivers.
The general conditions for availing scholarships, awards and waivers are described below.
The University Authority may, depending on the situations, review the policy regarding the categories, amounts and duration of scholarships, awards and waivers subject to the Act 10 related to private universities, regulations of the UGC, Bangladesh and Statutes of the University.
05.00 General Conditions for all Scholarships/Awards/Waivers:
The following conditions apply to all kinds of scholarships, awards and waivers as the case may be.
i. No student will be entitled to get any scholarship if the study gap after his/her HSC Exam is more than 5 (five) years.
ii. The criterion involving the minimum number of credit hours to be taken, in all the semesters, has to be fulfilled. [The credit hours of the Retake Courses will to counted to determine the fulfilment of the minimum credit hours requirement. The credit hours of the courses taken for improvement will NOT be counted to determine the fulfilment of the minimum credit hours requirement.]
iii. There cannot be any ‘F’ grade in any of the courses (including the course(s) taken for improvement) during the semesters the scholarship holders or the waiver beneficiaries will be provided the respective benefits.
iv. Students with semester drop(s) or readmission will NOT be offered any scholarship/waiver in the first semester after resumption of study.
v. As for scholarship or tuition fee waiver, unless special conditions apply, a student will get the benefit ONLY from the category that provides the maximum benefit to the student and no student can get benefits from more than one categories.
vi. To avail any category of scholarship/waiver other than from the general categories, a student will have to apply for the scholarship/waiver within a specified date announced by the University Authority. [The SWPFC proposes within 15 days from the beginning of a semester.]
vii. Unless there is a change, the scholarship/waiver amount payable to any beneficiary in any semester will be adjusted from the semester dues in the beginning of the semester involved.
06. Scholarships for Foreign Students:
i. For foreign students the scholarship/financial assistance policy is different
GRaduate Program
CAT 4: WAIVERS FOR SMUCT GRADUATE
For SMUCT graduates admitted in MBA in Product and Fashion Merchandising, MBA (Regular), MA in Fashion Design and MA in Interior Design program or any other graduate program, 10% waiver will be applicable.
3.2 Conditions for Scholarships and Waivers:
GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS:
- The scholarships are for all newly admitted registered students and are applicable at the time of admission.
- Scholarship holder has to maintain SGPA of 3.00, at all levels in all the semester. His/her scholarship will be discontinued if it falls below the required SGPA. However, the scholarship will be continued at the rate enjoyed previously if in the corresponding semester exam, She/he can achieve SGPA 3.00 again.
GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR ALL SCHOLARSHIPS/AWARDS/WAIVERS:
The following conditions apply to all kinds of scholarships, awards and waivers as the case may be.
- No student will be entitled to get any scholarship if the study gap after his/her HSC Exam is more than 5 (five) years.

- As for scholarship or tuition fee waiver, unless special conditions apply, a student will get the benefit ONLY from the category that provides the maximum benefit to the student and no student can get benefits from more than one categories.
- To avail any category of scholarship/waiver other than from the general categories, a student will have to apply for the scholarship/waiver within a specified date announced by the University Authority. [within 15 days from the beginning of a semester.]
- Unless there is a change, the scholarship/waiver amount payable to any beneficiary in any semester will be adjusted from the semester dues in the beginning of the semester involved.
