Founder Chairman of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology, Valiant freedom-fighter, Late Md. Imamul Kabir Shanto left a message to us before his departure on 30 May 2020.

By sacrificing my wisdom, labor and whole property, I have come with the aim to contribute to the development of poverty free prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla’.  My job oriented, creative and culture based educational institution Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology (SMUCT) is a part of this great endeavor.

Once I had to leave my country.  Before leaving Bangladesh I promised that I would never return to my country.  But, while I was in Germany, I was amazed to observe that even after being defeated in two consecutive World Wars, the Germans survived keeping their heads high as a developed nation in the world. The reasons behind this are their patriotism, job oriented education, proper utilization of their resources and deep respect for their own culture.  By the implication of job oriented education, they properly utilized crores of labor hours of their youth. 

In our country, in the name of higher education, we impart university education to our students up to the age of 24 to 25, all of which go in vain.  But, after achieving job oriented education, they will be able to give more labor hours to the nation.

So, instead of keeping my eyes closed to my responsibilities to my nation, and thinking about my mother and my motherland, I returned from Germany to my homeland.  I decided to make our young generation production oriented skilled human resources and highly competent to face the challenges of the world market and to free them from the curse of unemployment resulting from the ‘degree-culture’ education.  In view of that and to develop and spread job oriented, creative and cultural education, I established ‘Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology’⸺ the first design based university in this region.   When I started this journey, the UGC-approved bachelor’s and master’s programs on design and creative discipline were not available in any other private universities except SMUCT.

The results of the implementation of my views about education are now visible.  Our talented and creative graduates, who are products of our creative education, are now serving with honor and dignity holding high positions in various fields like the media, event management, fashion houses, RMG sector and in many other sectors.  Our successful engagement in these sectors is an example for the nation.  By giving recognition to our creativity based education, the nation has recognized SMUCT as ‘The Creative Destination of the Nation’.

We work relentlessly with an aim to create enlightened human beings capable to contribute to the financial emancipation of our country.  We are committed to establish SMUCT as a ‘Model Creative University of the Nation’.  Our permanent campus at Uttara-17 with unique architectural framework is on the verge of completion.

Let us all work together to make our university an epitome for higher education so that it can be ranked as a respectable position in the world ranking.
