The Department of Sociology and Anthropology of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology (SMUCT) organized coursework on Friday, March 25, in Panam City and Bangladesh Folk Arts & Craft Foundation Museum, Sonargaon, Narayanganj. The primary aims of the coursework were to gain first-hand and practical knowledge of the cultural heritage of Bangladesh.
The coursework has been done on three courses (SOA 2203-Bangladesh Society and Culture, SOA 3103, and SOA 3203- Rural Sociology and Urban Sociology. It was a successful coursework program. All faculty members and around 120 students were present in the coursework.
This coursework was started with a directional speech by Professor Shamsun Nahar, Head of the Department. She said, “The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is well-known for fieldwork-based knowledge that distinguishes this from other social sciences. So, the students must know how to collect first-hand data. That is why we organized this coursework.” She added, “We will organize different types of extra and co-curricular activities in the upcoming days.”
In the field, the faculties of the Department- Md. Mehedi Hasan, Dr. Khandaker Mursheda Farhana, Tazia Sultana, and Khalilullah Muhammad Bayezid taught the students how to observe the cultural heritage of our country. In addition, all students were given a Questionnaire to train them on how to collect first-hand data. They have collected data of the questionnaire from visitors.
